To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/OES. c. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/GWHANCOCK c. BY/NS.{Norman Scott} BY.12/N.15.7.38. Bentley II (Production). GB.3559 - Rear Axle Pinion. Difficulty is experienced from time to time due to the track for the outboard bearing getting scored. We have for some time been considering a reclamation scheme. Several pinions on production have been produced with insufficient length of roller track. We have therefore had them modified and shrunk on a hardened sleeve to bring them back to standard dimensions. Would you arrange to have the sample pinion sent herewith, built up into an axle. This axle should then be given a representative test to ascertain if this scheme will stand up. Will Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} kindly arrange for the necessary tests to be carried out, as this is considered as urgent matter in view of the complaints from Depots. The pinion should be removed at the conclusion of the tests and returned to the writer for examination. pp. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Boyles | ||
