1379. Rml/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 10th February, 1939. John Dugdale, Esq., "The Autocar", Dorset House, Stamford Street, LONDON. S.E.1. Dear Dugdale, I am returning your 'copy' herewith, which I have read with great interest. It strikes me as being a remarkably readable account of our trip. Answering your questions:- (1) The total mileage covered was almost exactly 1,000. I have no figure for the overall petrol consumption of the two cars. (2) The size of the tyres fitted to the streamline car was 5.50 x 18, but these were of a special road-racing type. (3) The actual best petrol consumptions achieved on that car and at constant speeds on the Autobahn were as follows:- 42 m.p.h. 32 m.p.g. 60 " 26 " 80 " 21 " 90 " 17 " When we did the unofficial hour's run at Montlhery @ 107 m.p.h., the petrol consumption came out @ 12.2 miles to the gallon. I have no comparative figures for the ordinary saloon. (4) I have no acceleration figures, but as the car will be back at the Works the beginning of next week, we can take them then, or your Representative can get them. | ||
