1293. File To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. to Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/HH. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}9/JH.12.2.40. GORDON ARMSTRONG SHOCK ABSORBER AND REBOUND STRAP AT REAR, SENIOR RANGE. We enclose two prints of PL.107 showing the standard Armstrong shock damper fitted in front of the rear axle on the cars of the Senior range. The damper is entirely standard except for the operating lever. After a long struggle it has been found impossible to have the connecting link underneath the frame and therefore the attachment to the axle is no longer part of the plate attaching the rear spring. The rebound strap is of the fabric type and we suggest that you may wish to test this design before going to the more elaborate scheme of brake cable construction such as we used some years ago on the Phantom II. We attach herewith two prints of PL.97 showing an alternative type of connecting link. We have communicated with the makers of the Harris bush and they have suggested the use of the bushes shown namely bush No.901. On PL.118 of which we attach two prints we show the geometry of the connecting link. It may be recalled that the makers of the Harris bush permitted us the maximum degree of endwise rock on the bush, 8 degrees. It is intended to fit these dampers to the Ripplet chassis 2.R.E.
