EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}31/H31.10.23. "since lock washers,(i.e. Grover Washers) are used with absolute success on a number of the most important places on the chassis, including the suspension of the sphere, it would be better to use these throughout the frame. "It is very difficult indeed to insure that the rivetting is done properly and with the correct weight of the hammer. "With regard to the bolts attaching the rear axle tubes, these are at present fitted with lock washers and are rivetted in addition, whereas all the other bolts on the rear axle construction use Grover washers, only without rivetting. "In discussing this change here we have found that, although Grover washers are sometimes broken in attaching the nut or in backing off the nut, we do not know of any case where they have broken in use on the car. This matter, I take it, is now being considered by R.{Sir Henry Royce} and if you have any comments in connection with this job I presume you will submit same to him. EP.{G.
