Re rapid test of Valve Springs. X. 290

Na.{Mr Nadin} 22-1-14.

With reference to Mr Elliott's memo Ell/T16.1.14, a copy of which you have, we wish to state that we are not satisfied by Mr Elliott's suggestion, it is perhaps possible that Mr Elliott is not fully aware of either the urgency or the exact nature of this job and that he has in consequence not made the facts quite clear to Mr Royce.

The existing valve testing rig in the Experimental Shop is constantly being used for experimental purposes and there are at present a large number of valve spring tests that have been delayed about 10 months awaiting an opportunity to use this rig.

What Mr Johnson suggested and what Mr Wormald wants, is a rig for use in the Works to enable our inspectors to rapidly test a few springs taken from each batch that we have received from the makers, and we should be pleased therefore if you will issue instructions for such a rig to be made for this purpose.
