Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X2923 BY8-P20.12.23. RE OILS. STERNS LTD. Referring to Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}1/NJ121223, the matter of either changing our oil suppliers altogether, or giving alternate sources of supply, is under serious consideration by the Exp. Dept. at the moment. We cannot, however, make a rapid decision on a subject of this nature, although it has already been in hand for some time. The conditions we require for making comparisons will occur when we start to run chassis with the various modifications upon them on their 10000 miles test, when Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, proposes to run each car with a different oil with the object of getting exact comparisons between the various types. We would suggest to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, that Messrs. Sterns have consideration at the time such tests are run, but beyond this we cannot go. It is obviously wrong to consider oil merely upon the basis of reciprocating business, but I see no reason why we should not test their oils, and if satisfactory as compared with others, recommend them as an alternative, that is to say, in the future Instruction Book we would give a range of oil possibly instead of recommending the single make. Grade to order for test is R.R. Sternol. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
