Dear Sir,

Mr. Robotham has asked me to let you have a drawing of your shock absorbers, and give adjustment information.

The last time your car had attention to the suspension, the front damper loads were raised from 70 lbs. to 105 lbs. on the ball end. We consider that 105 lbs. for this type of damper is the maximum safe load, as the load increases to over double this on a rapid axle movement.

In order to increase the damper loads 10 lbs. the valve spring needs .013" more compression. This is effected by reducing the thickness of washer 'A' by .013".

Another adjustment of this damper is the amount of leak permitting oil to flow from one side of the piston to the other without lifting the valve. This is done by the thickness of the washer 'B'. We should not advise a thicker washer here.

We suggest that you should first try to get the required compromise by adjustment washer 'A'.

We should like to point out that we cannot accept the responsibility of the shock absorbers and their anchorage being reliable if loads in excess of 105 lbs. are used.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
