For attention of Mr. Leslie.
Dear Sirs,
Referring to our telephone conversation of the 14th and your letter of the 15th instant in regard to the cost of the Torque Arms.
When Mr. Leslie visited these Works to discuss the question of the first six samples, he asked that these should be hand made, but that they should be such as to afford you material for a reliable test of parts made up in this manner. He was told that to do this it would be necessary to make tools, and to produce the component parts as pressings, and this was agreed.
We proceeded on the understanding that the work must necessarily be of a high class nature, and that the samples should afford a proper comparison for test in relation to what would be produced in bulk.
The cost of the rough tools on these first six was just under £80.
It was then decided to have six more Torque Arms made in a lighter gauge material, and this involved some slight alterations to the tools, the cost of which was just over £5.
