Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} WOT. x20b Sft{Mr Swift}/WNW.1/DR.22.6.36. SPRING LOADED AXLE CONTROL. BENTLEY. Scheme Drg. R.M.163. In connection with the above we have, as requested, examined the scheme from a manufacturing point of view and find their will be a slight increase in cost over our present design. We estimate this increase to be 2 1/2d. (without charges) per chassis. The reason for this is mainly due to the material change. The S/ZN Spindle and Bushes requiring additional machining operations above those required for the present S/N Spindle and Bronze Bushes. We have assumed in our estimates for the new Spindle that machining only is required on the end bearings and on the stems for holding down. An increase in the dia. of the long oil hole through the spindle portion would reduce the cost for this drilling operation. Bentley Chassis. Sec. 7161. YB.2604/12.
