X3406 A.T. c to Mr. Hives. EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/T15/R231117. Re Series 8 Altitude Controls. With reference to your memo BY8/F201117 we want to avoid two types of controls, and in conversation with Mr. Hives, I understand he will take this matter up with a view to getting it settled whether we are to continue to send engines out as at present with 18% range, and if not what range is to be allowed. I want to make it quite clear that we do not know when an engine is delivered whether it is to be fitted to a seaplane or a land plane. I also want to point out that we cannot change satisfactorily after the engines have been delivered, as the tuning up and adjustment of the carburetter is upset. EP.{G.
