Hallam - Head Repairs} 17. 3. 38. AC9 - Bearings. ------------------ We have today forwarded to you the following Bearings for Experimental test:- 12 centri-cast Bentley Main Bearings. F1. 13 Statically cast Bentley Main Bearings. F2. and tomorrow morning we hope to forward you the full quantity of centri-cast Bearings. Please note that these Bearings are unheat-treated and the heat treatment should be as follows:- 175°C - 195°C for 12 hours before machining (as per Hl's memo' H1/L.VL.{V. Lewis / Mr Valentine} 9. 3. 38.) In view of the expense necessitated by testing, and as we are now dealing with a new process and material, we think it would be more economic to make one or two tests on a Rig to determine the frictional qualities of the alloy before assembling an Engine with the Bearings and putting it on the road.
