" HIVES. No.1. PACKARD BUILT ENGINE NOW STRIPPED AFTER RUNNING SATISFACTORY FOR 4 1/2 HOURS, WORKING UP TO 1000 H.P. 2650 r.p.m. 7 LBS. BOOST. GOOD STRIP BUT SIGNS OF HARD BEARING AT SOME POINTS ON LEAD BRONZE BIG END SHELLS. THESE WILL BE CASED AND ENGINE REASSEMBLED FOR FURTHER ENDURANCE RUNNING. ALL MAIN BEARINGS GOOD CONDITION. MERLIN XX FLIGHT ENGINE NOW BEING STALLED IN P.40 READY TO FLY IN THREE WEEKS.
