COPY. BARKER & CO, LTD., Olaf St, Latimer Rd, Notting Hill, W.11. HM{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/ES. 18th July, 1928. Dear Mr. Sidgreaves, Re: Mr. Royce's new car. I am sorry there has been some trouble in connection with the delivery date of this job, but I would like, for your information, to give you the actual facts, so that you can judge that we are in no way responsible for the original delivery date being exceeded. You will remember you came down to the Works with Mr. Evernden, I believe round about the 21st June, and decided then to take the body which was to be altered to suit a special chassis, particulars of which he promised to let me have quickly, as it was realised nothing could be done until we knew the dimensions of the chassis. Mr. Evernden wrote to me on the 23rd June, saying he hoped to post on the following Monday, the drawings. These I received under cover of your letter of the 25th June, on the 27th. Mr. Evernden then promised to come along to discuss any questions with us, but up to the time of writing he has not been able to come along, and we have carried out all the work from particulars furnished by him through correspondence. You will see from the above that there was a delay of nearly a week from the time you decided to take the body until we were in a position to go ahead, and bearing in mind we did not start the job until the 27th June, and then found it necessary to make an entirely new scuttle dash to suit the new chassis, all new runners and wheel arches, and remake the rear boot, I think you will agree we have lost no time on the job. From the first day of commencing the work we have had the bodymakers on overtime, now five trimmers are working on the body, also overtime, and I told Mr. Honeyman today on the telephone, we hope to have the body ready to go to Derby on Wednesday evening next. Yours sincerely, (Sd). H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Munro. | ||
