COACHWORK.
F.{Mr Friese} DODD [handwritten]

During the Earl's Court Exhibition we had a discussion with JLE.{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} on chassis matters, relating to coachwork, and the following recommendations were arrived at jointly :-

PHANTOM III.

(1). The rear diagonal stays between the body and the chassis 2nd. crossmember have two bolts, each, attaching them to the latter. This prevents their being pivoted about the chassis fixing so that their free ends may land on the body crossmember which has a variable position. It is suggested that they be attached by only one bolt each at the chassis end, and that the free end be left long by the addition of say 6.000 of flat metal strip to be cut off to suit by the coachbuilder.

As well as modifying the detail of the stay, it would be necessary to modify the chassis print, and the illustration in the book of Recommendations to Coachbuilders.

(2). The illustration for bracing the top of the scuttle by two continuous tubular stays between the scuttle rails, shewn in Recommendations to Coachbuilders needs to be revised, as it is not now practical.

It is suggested that three views of alternative treatments be substituted.-
(a). A system of four tubes, joining the three transverse scuttle rails.
(b). A system of blocks between the rails.
(c). A system of sheet metal gussets.

The present illustration is misleading in that the tubes at the dash end are shewn attached by the scuttle isolation bolts, which is wrong, as these bolts are not tight.

(3). On the scuttle isolation print F.88895, it is suggested that the sections shewn are not always read correctly, and that section B-B should be a vertical section, and that section H-H should appear on the left hand sectional view and be deleted as a separate section.
