HOBSON K-S PETROL LEVEL INDICATOR.

We are running on two of the experimental cars (one Phantom and one 20 HP.) a petrol level indicator which is mounted on the instrument board and gives a direct reading of the petrol in the tank. Attached herewith are diagrams which shew how it operates. There are no moving parts. We have found the indicator quite reliable.

The only disadvantage we have found with it is that the scale is rather cramped. There is a definite limit to the depth of the 'U' tube one can fix on the instrument board. Where-as this may be perfectly satisfactory for a small 6 or 8 gallon tank, it becomes rather crowded when it has to register 20 galls.

On the other hand however, one soon gets to know at a glance within a gallon how much petrol there is in the tank.

The scheme for replenishing the air we consider is very ingeneous. We have proved that it does work by breaking the air line and joining it up again. We found it we ran the car on the road, it gradually built up. It took 30 or 40 miles running before the reading was normal but this of course is a very extreme condition.

It is an American invention and is fitted to a large number of American cars. Our experience so far proves it to be the most satisfactory of the indicators which can be fitted to the instrument board.
