STANDARDISATION SHEETS. Y3953

Replying to BJ12/E18.10.26. It is impossible to state what the amount of scrap will be until the standardisation sheet is completed, but the procedure is that no scrap is made unless agreed to by yourself. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} of course deals with this.

The difference in cost is not as a rule on the standardisation sheet when they are signed by other Officials except yourself. It would mean further delay if all standardisation sheets were held up until the cost was obtained.
It was agreed by CJ. that the standardisation sheets should go round, but the cost must be added before they were either sent to himself or R.{Sir Henry Royce} For some time however, R.{Sir Henry Royce} has signed on the same sheet as E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} His views are that the std. sheet should be got round as quickly as possible and if the cost is going to prevent us from using the part, it should not be run for 10,000 miles. R.{Sir Henry Royce} has also expressed doubt as to whether the costs which are given before the parts are actually made, are in any way accurate. In the case of the hydraulic shock dampers for the front, this is confirmed - the estimated increase given on the std. sheet was £9. 15. 6 - the actual increase, based on production time is £7. 5. 4d.
