Re. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid{A. J. Lidsey}9/KT17.6.31.

(1) We agree to put the strap guide at 45°. We cannot have it horizontal and forward as there must be 1" between any point on the guard rail and the body for painting and cleaning purposes.

(2) Would these guides not look better on the inside so as to leave the surface of the tube showing uppermost a clean appearance when the grid is closed up.

(3) We do not like the appearance of the unbalanced handle but we see no alternative.

If we use a knurled round handle for the hinged tip it must be so small in dia, or it will touch the luggage 1" dia. We suggest that you try one. We do not think such a handle would be adequate for the main fixing. Here the handle could be 1.250" dia.

We agree that the lower hinge centre of the hinged tip of the present grid (type 4) has the advantages of permitting a larger handle and opening stop. It has however no means of being held in the closed position, hence the straps that are fitted.

The design of N.sch.3032 has the virtue that it is locked open and closed.

A small lug on the end of the hinged portion would give a downward stop.
