We have dismantled the water pump in order to re-pack the gland and replace the fabric coupling. The gland had badly worn, resulting in a serious loss of water. It seems that the wear in the gland is due to the fabric coupling having stretched to an oval shape, and consequently, tending to pull the impellor shaft out of line.
