-3- EHG/RL.1/AP.6.11.36. Crankshaft continued 1 1/2 ozs. at B.D.C. mark on flywheel at approximately 6" radius, were found to be too heavy - 1/2 oz. in this position proving to be sufficient. With the clutch removed, crankshaft and flywheel were found to be perfectly balanced. The Borg and Beck clutch was found to be badly worn on two of the four driving lugs which had allowed the pressure plate to move bodily away from its true axis. The displacement of pressure plate was sufficient to cause the out-of-balance reported by testers in France. ------------------------- Spring Drive. Inner half of Damper Flywheel scored on friction surfaces, the scoring being heaviest on outside diameter. The 16 spring washers are fidgetting against the back of the pressure plate. Bushes show signs of hard bedding and fidgetting in the bore. Friction surfaces - magnetic tested for cracks and found O.K. Cotton - duck washer - condition good. ------------------------- Oil Pump - Increased Capacity Gears cross-bedding and scoring the walls of casing Ex.11936 on the suction side. Suction side of cover EB.2393 is also scored. The end of the splines on the driving gear-shaft are scoring the bore in the pump casing. ------------------------- Wheelcase. Wheelcase EB.2635 cracked on flange in the crankshaft bore, see Ex.I.75. The acme thread section of fan-pulley has been fouling the wheelcase in the vicinity of the crack. ------------------------- Oil Filter. One bottom lug broken off casing E.86803 , this appears to be a weak section. ------------------------- continued. | ||
