-2- Nature of Complaint. No. of Cars. Pre-India. India Series. Last Qtr's. Total. Remarks. Engine Overoiling. W. 2. N. 1. P. - W. 8. N. 11. P. - 22. 5. In cases of overoiling we find the crankshaft allows a good deal of oil to pass due to wear on the journals. It is a cheaper method of overcoming the trouble to keep the oil down by honing the cylinder bores and fitting new pistons and rings. Exhaust Pipe Bracket Failures. W. - N. - P. - W. 12. N. 25. P. - 37. 23. Design unaltered. This is not satisfactory. Engine Gears Noisy and Rattle. W. 2. N. - P. - W. 5. N. 1. P. 1. 9. 10. Our chief trouble at present is caused by rattling in the gears. To overcome this all slack is taken out of dynamo drive serrations and bearings. See that the springs give the correct damping to the pressure plate. There must be a minimum amount of slack in the timing gears and engine bearings, especially the front bearings. Hydraulic Shock Absorbers. W. - N. - P. - W. 14. N. 22. P. 1. 37. 46. A rattle is heard which is caused by the movement of the connecting links to the piston. In the meantime we are changing the shock absorbers for ones with specially fitted links with reduced clearances. | ||
