X 4342S. COPY OF LETTER RECEIVED FROM:- S. SMITH & SONS LTD., CENTRAL WORKS, EDGWARE ROAD? CRICKLEWOOD, N.W.2. Our ref. ACL/MM. 19th September, 1921. Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, DERBY. X.4359S X.4342S. Dear Sirs, for the attention of Mr. E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Fowler Clark. We are despatching to you today the Model 4D dynamo and Model 5S starter which you require for your Goshawk engine. We would point out that the Model 4D dynamo represents the best which we can do for a machine of this size but does not come up to your specification, but we may say we do not consider it possible to conform to this with a machine of the dimensions in question. In connection with the starter motor, as previously stated in several letters, we do not think that this machine with a gear ratio of only 8 to 1 will start the 6 cylinder engine of which you gave us particulars. We shall, however, await with interest the results of your tests. Yours faithfully, p.p. S SMITH & SONS (LTD. (Sgd) Archibald C. Lock. Manager, Electrical Department. | ||
