re CORROSION OF ALUMINIUM WATER CONNECTIONS. PHANTOM II.
Referring to your NRC{N. R. Chandler}18/S.12.12.34., we would refer you to Depot Sheet Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}219, dated 7th September 1931, in which we instructed that all Phantom II water connections at the base of the radiator should be examined and, if necessary, changed for new ones made in bronze.
We are well aware of this trouble on any Phantom II cars which have not got these parts made in bronze. The trouble appears to be confined almost entirely to the blanking plate and the lower water connection on the radiator and, to a lesser degree, to the core hole plugs.
In connection with the latter we would also refer you to Depot Sheet Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}221, which instructs the fitting of steel plugs instead of aluminium.
In case you have mislaid these Depot Sheets we send you two further copies herewith.
We do not propose to send you a new water pump not the aluminium pipes because we have never had much trouble with these parts in spite of the fact that many cars have been operating in areas where the water is particularly liable to cause corrosion of aluminium parts.
The trouble is worse where dissimilar metals are in contact and also where the parts are not in the main water stream.
We are sending you two sets of bronze water connections for the bottom of the radiator.
