X4057' To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From G.W.H. Hotel de France, Chateauroux, FRANCE. 28.11.32. 2.PER.II. During yesterday' morning's run the period between 30-35 m.p.h. was again noticeable but not so pronounced by 50% as when you heard it. We think that it would be better to reduce the thickness of the rubbers to overcome the vulcanising effect and obtain results before changing the clutch material. We shall do this. RE. ENGINE MOUNTING. I mentioned to RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} the condition of the selector shaft bracket in the rear crossmember. He says that he is positive that it would be central in the slot and that the engine must have gone over to the N.S. to bring it thus. It certainly was not so when we first arrived here. We are still satisfied with the torque reaction effects without the dampers. RE. FRONT WINGS. We have got very little improvement in the movement of the N.S. front wing after strengthening the wing stay. The trouble is that we cannot hold the wing solidly on to the wing stays. The wing moves irrespectively of the stays due to its weakness of section. We can observe it buckling between the holding down bolts. This does not occur with the O.S. because of the well let into the wing for the spare wheel. This ties and prevents the buckling of the material. This brings forward a suggestion to prevent and cure wing movement. A dummy well could be welded underneath the wing, could be used in the form of a tool locker, but its primary use would be the strengthening of the wing. We propose to try it. RE. GEARBOX TESTS. (1) Full throttle for half a minute on second gear. No sign of gear coming out. (2) Full throttle for half a minute on first gear. No sign of gear coming out. G.W.H. | ||
