-8- (1) The use of a much bigger resistance than would be possible in the Midgley case, and of such a value as practically to cut off the charge altogether (except for a very small charge at high speeds). (2) The different connection of the negative end of the shunt coil of the auto switch. (3) The winding of the resistance itself on the core. (4) The use of two rigid contacts instead of one spring supported contact, in which latter case the contacts do not immediately separate. (5) Passing only the head lamp current through the series coil. Later. We have now decided that the amount of resistance tried is the best compromise between - (a) Sparking at the contact points, (b) Excess voltage of system at high speeds. EFC. | ||
