D.W.S.Jacks - Phantom II.

I received your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}5/KT28.11.33 and also the special jack handle to which you refer.

There certainly seems to be a good deal of support for the contention that the time taken to lower the jack to the ground and fold up again is excessive, and the amount of work involved fatiguing.

We think, however, that if such a scheme were adopted it wouldbe very necessary to clearly indicate to users of the jack, by means of possibly a linen label of very stout texture which would not easily become torn or removed, that the respective gears are there for their use and to facilitate the working of the jack, explaining the proper procedure.

We have tried the jack handle here on 2-PY standing in these Showrooms but it definitely will not fit the D.W.S. jack fittings on this car. I do not know of any reason why the fittings on 2-PY should be different from any other fittings on 40/50 cars, or for that matter different so far as the operating shaft is concerned on the 20/25 h.p. chassis. This jack handle does however fit the operating shaft on a 20/25 car standing in the Showrooms with a certain amount of sloppiness in the fitting, but nothing will induce it to go on to the front or back axle fittings on 2-PY. Can you explain this, please ?

I am nevertheless sending the jack handle to Lillie Hall as you suggest for general garage use, and for opinions to be expressed on it, and I am wondering whether it actually will fit the 40/50's, notably our Trials Cars, if it does not fit the one in the Showrooms.

If at Lillie Hall they find this handle no use on the 40/50 I have asked them to return it to you to be replaced by another which will fit the 40/50 fittings.

How long would you like to leave this jack handle until you receive reports from those who will be using it ?
