cc. Ve. Wv. Cdr.{W. J. Chandler - Chief Clerk} Young. file RM.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/ML. 16.9.40. This in reply to [illegible handwriting] Capt. Green, The Admiralty, Empire Hotel, BATH. Dear Captain Green, Confirming our telephone conversation this morning. You are now asking us to despatch the first gun to the Power Boat Company at Hythe, fitted to the Rolls Royce pedestal type of mounting. This is contrary to the instructions given by Commander Young on Tuesday of last week. We attach a copy of a letter which we wrote to Young in which the main points, settled during his visit, were enumerated. You will appreciate that, as a result of the decisions taken last week, the manufacture of the pedestal type was held up in favour of the armour plate for the Oerlikon mounting. We will now however, concentrate on the pedestal mounting and hope that it will be ready to leave with the gun before the end of this week. The shield situation for this mounting, however, is not very satisfactory, since the designs have only just been completed, and no-one connected with the Admiralty has seen them. We will do what we can to urge the manufacture of these shields in half inch mild steel so that they will at least form a basis of approval when mounted in the boat. - Continued - | ||
