Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/MCM/DJB.8.9.19. --- RE PETROL FILTERS. ----------- We have received a letter from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} extract of which we give below, referring to the Filter in the Petrol Tank. "Petrol filters gauze eaten away. Takes place after few thousand miles running - troubles first manifest by engine failure - bits of gauze found in jets. There appears to be some chemical action on it - although copper pipes and fittings seem O.K. there does not appear to be any chemical formed - except black coating like oxidised copper. At present filters practically useless & when taken out invariable found "shreaded". Customers object to expense of replacing - and usually take all gauze off and fix a cheap small one in circuit - in which new gauze can be replaced in few minutes cheaply. Am trying to get some chemist on the job to report. Poor petrol used here - does the same trouble exist in works reapirs?" We believe this trouble has occurred before and that it was attributed to the use of inferior petrol or to Benzol EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} | ||
