10,000-mile test of Woodhead thin leaf springs in France.

Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} TESTS WITH 12 1/4% THIN LEAF WOODHEAD SPRINGS IN FRANCE. The car in France has now completed 10,000 miles fitted with the 12 1/4% Woodhead springs on the front. The one failure has been the bottom leaf on the N.S. spring which broke after 7,100 miles. The broken leaf was replaced with another bottom leaf taken off a spare spring; the test was continued and the 10,000 miles were completed without further failure. It was reported after 2,000 miles that the clear-ance between the buffer and the spring had got less, indicating that the springs had lost some of their initial camber. Since then, records were taken and no further alteration has taken place. We can check the initial camber when the car returns. We are expecting to start running in France immed-iately with a pair of the latest 12 1/4% springs made by Messrs. Firths. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
