Dear Lucas,

Many thanks for your letter of February 27th.

I am very glad that you are willing to co-operate with us in solving this problem. We have already been working on the job for 6 months so a few days more will not prove disastrous. We will therefore wait for Barrington.

Incidentally, our diagnosis that oxidation has a bearing on the problem may be entirely wrong; you will be able to form your own conclusions as soon as you have the evidence.
