To R.{Sir Henry Royce} contd. -2- EFC5/T26.9.19. really good quality lighting sets and they are out to capture this field and make a name for themselves in this direction. They have quantities of the smaller type dynamo in production and on test, and although they did not shew us a larger type dynamo actually in production, they said that it is only a matter of a few weeks before they are turning out these with the excellent finish which we have demanded, and which finish they are going to embody, so we understand, in their standard production article. We saw quite a number of parts going through for this machine. A particularly interesting section of the works was the die casting section, in which we saw dynamo end plates being cast; so far as we could judge these were excellent castings. They shewed us, at Portland Street, a finished armature for the dynamo, which they said, will be put in one of our machines of which they have promised to send two in the next few weeks. This armature had certainly a better finish than the one already received and there is a distinct improvement in the appearance of the commutator. We have heard from another source, and Messrs. Smith confirmed it to us, that "Leyland Motors" are interested in the same machine as ourselves and are also demanding a good finish. Also that they have had a sample machine and tested this continuously off a line shaft for days and nights together without burning it out. Contd. VERNON'S (WF/T-50 BKS. 10/18) 1,000 | ||
