REPORT ON PARTS FOR AMERICAN CHASSIS

2 - STARTING MOTOR.

(1) For history of negotiations with Derby on this part, please refer to my recent report to Mr. Belnap of June 22nd of which copy has been sent you. Additional copy is attached here-with.

From this report you will see that we have been asking definite information from Derby on the subject of the starting motor since last October, and have so far received no proper instructions.

(2) As already pointed out in connection with the generator, the above report takes no account of the efforts which Mr. Humpston has made to get these parts tested and approved.

(3) We recommend the Bijur because of
(a) the unique reputation which it has established in the last seven or eight years on the Packard (40,000 cars), Winton (12,000) cars) and other high grade cars to a total number of over 100,000.
(b) the Bijur service depots all over the U.S. and Canada (165 in number)
(c) the fact that we have inspected the early 1913 Bijur motor, tried it out ourselves and found it excellent, and
(d) because it will develop considerably more horsepower than our own motor at a given speed (see enclosed copies of report to Mr. Royce on starting motors and generators and attached curves.)
