TO SP.{Mr Spinney} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to CJ. " " HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} " " DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} " " BV. X3683 ORIGINAL. 2 R6/G27/4/23 (RECEIVED 29 APR 1921) RE POSITION OF SPARE WHEEL. We have carefully considered placing the spare wheel in all positions compared with that we shew, and we think it is undoubtedly the best to incline it towards the body at the top. We do not think for a minute it could be carried looking outwards, and it would have to stick out a long way to be of any value, when it would look ridiculous. If, therefore, the designs of the body are such that the hood would foul on the wheel (which we think can be avoided) it would seem as if the spare wheel would have to be carried elsewhere. We trust, however, that you will find, with a certain amount of care in the arrangement of the hood, that the risk of damage to it by it fidgeting on the spare wheel, will be very small indeed.
