- 4 - BENTLEY 2. Thin Engine Oils With regard to the arrangement whereby K.{Mr Kilner} are asking certain customers to try Arctic after a re-bore, Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} suggested that with a view to investigating the possibility of saving the cost of a re-bore they should be given an engine which has reached that stage with a view to experimenting in that direction, and he would provide an engine to be put into the customer's chassis in place of the one removed. It was agreed to carry out investigations on these lines. One car mentioned for the purpose was that of Mr.Gee. 3. Bentley Steering Wheel The thickness of this was discussed, and the general feeling was that if it could be made a little thinner and more in keeping with that on Wraith it would be preferable. The matter will be investigated. BENTLEY III 1. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}'s report Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/R18.5.38 was discussed, and it was agreed that a car - the second B.III to be built - would go to France next month for the purpose of getting results after prolonged mileage. A query was raised regarding the ground clearance, but it was considered to be mostly one of appearance and that the car did perform satisfactorily over rough ground so far as the clearance of the chassis was concerned. The chief problems in connection with the development of the B.III were reported to be the new gearbox with new engine mounting and the twin exhausts. 2. Disc Wheels A sample disc was shown which is fitted to the present wire wheels, which appears to be very satisfactory and very cheap. | ||
