ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} c. WCR. c. Sft.{Mr Swift} c. EFC. c. MX.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} V2894 BY/Cghb/G.14.4.28. MAKE AND BREAK LEVERS - 20 HP. & PHANTOM. With reference to ROY{Sir Henry Royce}/M63/P.12.4.28. and copy of letter received from Messrs. W. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Reynolds & Co. with sample make and break lever, showing their/proposed new method of fixing the contact point in position, we fail to see any logical reason for providing a square hole in the lever and then fitting in a round pin and riveting same in position. We do not see how they can expect the rivet to fill up the square hole, and we see no necessity for a square hole. Since Messrs. Reynolds are making no satisfactory progress in this matter, it is now very essential that we order immediately platinum points, and that these should be used for production until the/tungsten points which have been obtained from another source, and which are at the present time being tested out, have proved satisfactory. The platinum points should be obtained from and fitted by Messrs. Johnson Matthey. It is important that we act immediately as we cannot afford to play about any longer with Messrs. Reynolds.
