ORIGINAL RECEIVED MAY 18 1922 To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to Cd. c. to Wst. c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ✓ Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/M10.5.22. GOSHAWK 11. FRONT END OF REAR SPRING. X4261 We send herewith N.sch. 1270 shewing the proposals we make to deal immediately with the front end of the rear spring, that is to say, using existing forgings and (as we believe) the spring eye as now. It will be seen that the proposal is to increase the spring pin from .625 to .6875; to add the number of longitudinal grooves which Mr. Bailey proposes, and also increase slightly the diameter of the spring eye if necessary, but we believe that the spring eyes are now on the big side. Inorder to give more clearance between the spring eye and the upper part of the bracket we suggest that the tube should be reduced a little in diameter and thickened up, and that the underside of the bosses on the shackle forgings should be cut away definitely to avoid any filing or fitting in getting the spring eye in. This proposal is enough for you to carry on with the existing pieces and at the same time obtain improvement in wearing capabilities. We shall be sending you immediately the second stage, namely, a bracket with protection against mud, etc. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
