Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/Mcr3/L23115. Re Mex Motor Spirit. - X.976 23.1.15. Mr Plumpton. In reply to your memo Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}34/022115, we would like to point out in the first place that we do not use Mex spirit exclusively on our cars although I have seen Mex advertisements in Garages which state that we do. I remember seeing one prominently displayed at Cambridge last year. We use large quantities of this spirit for testing purposes but it is principally employed solely on account of its cheapness for testing parts other than the actual carburation of the engine, and before despatching every car it is always tested with Shell No.1 spirit, which is certainly superior to Mex. By superior we mean that it has a higher flash point and will evaporate more equally completely. It is more uniform in composition and gives better results in carburation. p.
