Letter regarding specifications, production, and weight of a Four Door Six Light Saloon body.

Identifier  ExFiles\Box 84\1\  scan0016
Date  10th August 1932 guessed

The final body is a Four Door Six Light Saloon, shewn on N.Sch.3461, and has a similar specification to the Four Light Saloon in every respect, in fact, save for the spacing of the doors and the extra quarter window the two are identical. Therefore although this is the last body to be delivered we suggest that its parts which are common to both bodies should be produced simultaneously.
We shall require this body by Oct.27th.
Complete finishing instructions will follow in a day or so, but it may be taken for estimating purposes that we shall not require and finish which will be not in common use.
As we have a programme to adhere to we would point out the desirability of the bodies be ready at the dates given at all cost, unless we have been able to inform you that a delay will cause no inconvenience.
The writer will call at your works immediately you inform him that a full size drawing is completed and awaits approval.
The question of weight is of vital importance. We congratulate you on the very meritorious result of the first body which weighing only 7cwts. 20 lbs. was 92lbs less than our fixed maximum limit of 8cwts. We hope that these other bodies will be as light but we leave our original fixed maximum limit of 8 cwts. to apply to all of the bodies.
We are asking Derby to supply you with a complete set of tools so that you may deal with their housing, a set of instruments so that you may finish the instrument boards and suitable dummy hubs for those cars on which the spare wheel is carried at the rear.

Yours faithfully,

for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
