We have investigated this job and have examined quantities of bearing shells, and cannot find bedding evidence by filing in existence, neither has bedding by this method been done for some years. We do, however remove burrs and slight bruises with a file, and this may have engendered the thought that bedding by filing was a normal procedure. After removal of burrs in this manner, we find the blued bedding of the outside diameter of the shell to the bore of the rod to be a very good job, as the outside diameter of the shell is produced by diamond turning, and the bore of the rod by grinding. Our investigations would be greatly facilitated by fuller details, such as, consignment note number, or delivery date from Work's as in the case of Connecting Rods, some of these are fitted up by the Repair Department and some by the Work's.
