Dear Hall,

I suggest that one of the most useful tests you can do on the racing car in practice is to run with, say, 6 gallons in the tank and actually keep the car going until the petrol supply fails, and then change over on to the reserve and empty the tank, filling up if necessary with a spare tin of petrol. This would ensure that our reserve arrangements work under actual running conditions: it would also ensure that any foreign matter in the pipe lines, etc., is collected in the filter before the race.

You will appreciate that we have not had an opportunity of running the brakes in on the racing car, and therefore to start with you will get a certain amount of fading.

We did not check the filling up of the tank under racing conditions at Derby, and though this appears to be fool-proof, we would recommend that you have a rehearsal.

Yours sincerely,
