8 F-53 To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} C.c. to H.J. C.c. to E.W.H. C.c. to D.P. re. BENSPORT. A number of the items contained in E.11/HP.15.2.33 can be looked upon as refinements, they are not fitted to the Bensport which is running in France. Taking the items as in E's. memo :- (1) Cylinder Block. The cylinder block is not essential. All the development work on the car in France is running with a standard 25 HP. block. On the standard 25 HP. block there is an induction passage cast between the cylinders. This is not used on Bensport. There is no reason at all why we cannot use the standard 25 HP. cylinders. We should not like to go on producing Bensport engines always with this passage. Items (2), (3), (4), and (5) are necessary because of the alteration to the dynamo drive. Items (6) and (7) are not necessary, but as they only mean taking the R.R. impression and changing it for the Bentley it is not much of a job. (8) Induction Pipes. The car we have running in France is satisfactory as regards induction pipes. The proposed modification allows more room for the wiring and is a better job, it is not essential but it should not cause any delay. (9) Cylinder Head. The car running in France has a standard J.1 head. Owing to the machining being modified it would be better to add a little more metal in one place. This is a very small alteration. (10) Clutch Casing. It was realised that the pedal arrangement on the car in France was a mock-up. W.W. have gone over the scheme of pedals this demands an extra boss on the existing pattern. We used to have this boss on all 25 HP.'s sometime ago. It is not a serious alteration. | ||
