RE GAITERS (LEATHER FOR SPRINGS ETC.) -PN{Mr Northey}16/WL- 19.10.20. With reference to road spring lubrication, I think that after well greasing, it is quite a good thing to put on the leather gaiters, especially on the rear springs. In looking over the list of extras usually recommended, two items might perhaps be offered but not pressed. One is the "Mascot", which would only be required by a certain number of people, others might think it was carrying weight for out-of-place beauty. The second item which ought to be avoided is the £5.10.0 for the leather wallet for the chassis tools. This seems an enormous price for something of rather doubtful utility. Some time ago I suggested that canvas could be used instead of leather, owing to leather being so enormously high in price. 1.EX, however, has been fitted up with a wooden tray under the seat; this is the arrangement I prefer, and as it has been satisfactorily fitted with "D" steering, it would appear that it would be possible to use this arrangement on all cars.
