Wear, faults and modifications to exhaust fittings and the dynamo.

40 lbs to 80 lbs. Very bad wear of the anti-judder weight pins and bushes occurred and noticeable rattles resulted. Crackles on contraction were noticeable from all drums.

EXHAUST FITTINGS. LOP. EB.2828.
New, complete to the following:-
Front Box & Downtake in 14.SWG.MS. } Pickled inside and
Intermediate in 16.SWG.MS. } out before assembly.

Centre Silencer Shell 4" dia.
standard length 16. SWG. MS. with 14. SWG.
ends 2" perforated tube in shell.

Above replaced at 2,500 miles by aluminised
Front Expansion Box etc. complete received from Works.

2nd Intermediate in 16. SWG. MS.

Rear Silencer in 16. SWG. MS. with
14. SWG. ends and 2" perforated tube.

2.7/8" Outer case packed with spunglass (Zonolite)

All lagging 24. SWG. MS. Nickle Plated.

Branch on Front Box to EB.2997/8/9.

The downtake pipe of the original front expansion box, broke away at the lower end after 2,200 miles running. It was repaired by welding.

A similar failure occurred on the Aluminised downtake pipe after 7,000 miles running. The original repaired box was fitted for the remainder of the running. The system was good for silence and freedom from booms.

DYNAMO. LOP. DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}1147.
Dynamo brushes grade Le Carbone EG.5397.

After 9,500 miles, the dynamo developed the fault of not charging for the first 15-20 miles, and then cutting in and charging normally for the rest of the run. The brushes and commutator were cleaned and trouble was cured temporarily but occurred again after another 1,000 miles.

The brushes deposited a black gummy coating on the commutator which also found its way onto the sides of the brushes making them stick in the holders. The brushes wore
