Dear Sirs,

FIRTH-BREARLEY STAINLESS STEEL

We thank you for yours of the 14th inst., ref "Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}4/NJI41218" and have pleasure in informing Mr. Royce that we shall be very pleased to supply you with this special steel in the form of hot rolled sheets.

We can roll down to say 20 S.W.G. thick and an extreme width of say 2'6" but with this steel we prefer the thicker gauges and a width of say 2 feet.

Our price is 1/11d per lb for 16 G and thicker x 2'0" wide. The sheets in the annealed condition will readily bend and would possibly meet any requirements you might demand in this respect.

You will most probably be aware of the necessity for this steel to have a surface free from scale and surface imperfections that may harbour impurities when resistance to corrosive action is desired and, therefore, at least one face of the sheet would require to be ground.

As regards the question of supplying sheets already prepared with ground polished surface, we might be able to offer you these but, at the present time, we are not able to do so. Should we be able to do so we will communicate further with you.

We enclose herewith booklet on "Stainless Steel and Its Uses" which will give you an idea as to the general properties of the steel with which, of course, you are already familiar in many respects.

We are, dear Sirs,
Yours truly,
THOS. FIRTH & SONS LIMITED.

F.{Mr Friese} Best
Director
