PHANTOM III - PETROL PUMPS.
=======================

Referring to the question of the 3rd pump which was discussed in my memo EY.3/G.16.6.37., whilst the decision at the Meeting was that the 3rd pump in question should be of the present type and in its present position on the dash, Mr. Elliott has telephoned me this morning to inform me that he suggests putting the pump on the bottom of the dash on the engine side where there is a somewhat lower temperature rise. The pump will have to be a single unit of the new type, that is, capable of producing higher pressure, the pipes will pass up behind the dash to meet the petrol pipe from the new double pump, and then the final delivery will pass through the dash.

We have not yet received the designs, but immediately these are available we will have to proceed with them, giving them first urgency position, and it will be necessary for the Experimental Department to urge delivery of the pumps, so that we can start fitting the improved 3rd pump in the new position when the modified double pump starts to be fitted to the chassis. If it is found that we cannot obtain the pumps in time, then we will have to produce a certain number of chassis with the 3rd pump in the present position, but this is undesirable, and every effort must be made to obtain the new 3rd pump, both from the S.U. and the parts that are being made in the works coincident with fitting the new pump on the frame.
