RE. FLOORBOARDS ON CHASSIS 8-EX. 48500

Answering your EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}23.10.25. The floorboards have now been made to the N.sch.2001 design. We have not heard any squeaks from these since refitting them.

Re. hot air entering drivers compartment. The chief trouble lies in the change speed quadrant. This portion has to be left open for the sliding shaft which leaves a free passage for the hot air to come through. It is such that after 50 miles running the change speed lever becomes uncomfortably hot. We have on 8-EX improved it considerably by fitting an aluminium guard round the quadrant.

Re. water entering through scuttle isolation. We have made the gap to the extent that the drawing F.73430 calls for. The drawing shows a minimum of .312 clearance. In your memo, you state a minimum clearance of .375. We take it that this should read max. clearance, there being no max. clearance shown on the drawing.

Our contention is that the water gets through the corners which are unprotected, the wood frame of the scuttle being much higher than the water channel, leaving a large opening when the water is driven through. We have had these corners filled up since complaining, but have not had the opportunity of fully testing out the results.
