To H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} from B.J. Copies to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 44256 BJ16/H24.7.24. 20 H.P. AXLE RATIO. 12-tooth axles have been our standard in the past for 20 h.p. open touring cars. It has been ascertained, however, that we can get very much better all-round results with 11-tooth axles, and this is especially so in giving demonstration runs on hills, in traffic, etc. Generally speaking, therefore, we feel that it is better for us to give demonstration runs with the 11-tooth axle, and we think customers will be more generally satisfied with 11-tooth axles. We have had complaints from customers that the 12-tooth axle is sluggish. We wrote to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} who have replied as attached. Under the circumstances, do you see any objection, please, to our making the 11-tooth axle standard on both open and closed 20 h.p. cars, so soon as we have used up the few remaining 12-tooth axles which we have in stock?
