1269 August 2nd.1937 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.1/AP. The Morgan Crucible Co.Ltd., Battersea Works, Church Road, LONDON S.W.11. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 30th inst., reference Z.Dept. Zk/DW. and have noted the contents thereof. We are proceeding with a design for utilising your type of gland and will forward you a rough layout when this is ready - any criticisms which you may be able to make will be welcome. The writer will be very pleased to discuss this matter with your Mr. Sparkes when he is at Derby next. Meanwhile there are one or two further points on which we should like information, as follows - (1) Do you recommend your Morganite material for the pump shaft bearing bushes and does it require any lubrication. Further, what is the ideal shaft material to use in this application. (2) What sort of life do you expect Morganite bushes used as in (1) to give without appreciable wear. (3) Is the sealing with your Morganite sealing gland sufficiently good to permit the use of ball bearings on the dry side of the gland - do you know of any cases where this is successfully done. (4) Have you any experience of running Nitralloy material against either Morganite sealing rings or bearing bushes. continued | ||
