METHANOL.

An application has been lodged with the Customs Commissioners for authority to receive duty free, Methyl Alcohol (Methanol) at these works, to be used as Fuel for testing aero engines.

This authority will be given provided that a bond in a penalty of £500. 0s. 0d. is entered into for a quantity not exceeding 500 bulk gallons of Methanol, over a period of twelve months. This can, of course, be increased if necessary.

This authority is granted, subject to the general conditions shown on the attached notice No.47, and to the following further conditions -

(1) That immediately on receipt the Methyl Alcohol must be mixed with tetra-ethyl lead in the proportion of 40 ccs. per gallon of spirit and

(2) that before any finished fuel is offered for sale, the complete formula must be submitted for the Commissioners' approval.

We shall be glad to have your assurance that these conditions will be complied with, as we shall require this information before signing the bond.

We gather the figures outlined above,* are the result of a conversation you had with Mr. Crocker, the Local Officer.
