40/50 CHASSIS - BONNET

I attach herewith copy of a note received from Bombay, reference WG{Mr Gill - Financial Director}6/A8422, which is the outcome of enquiries which we set on foot to find out what was the attitude of our people in India to the standardisation of a bonnet without shutters.

You will remember that actually we had a standardisation sheet completed upon which we are supposed to be acting at the moment, which cuts out the shutters from the bonnet, with the object, of course, of reducing the rattles in the bonnet. The standardisation sheet, however, will not come into force until the end of "P" Series, as we actually have all the material in for the bonnets up to the end of "P" with the holes for the shutters blanked out.

As our instructions stand at the moment, it means that as soon as the bonnet side plates which have the ventilation holes blanked out in them are used up, we should then immediately come on to bonnets without shutters.
