BENTLEY III. FRONT WHEELS AND BRAKES.

We send herewith N.Sch.5191 showing the arrangement of the front wheels and brakes for Bentley III.

The wheel itself is exactly the same as that for Wraith III, having a 17" rim. We have shown a similar wheel having a 16" diameter rim and also a portion of the hub shell of a Jaguar type of hub to make sure if we may so desire to subsequently fit such modifications without alterations to the brake drum and brakes.

With a 17" rim the tyre will foul the torque arm on full lock and full rebound with the locks originally called for, and it will be necessary, therefore, to reduce the lock by an amount which we suggest should be determined experimentally as full rebound on full lock cannot be anything but a very infrequent occurrence.

We regret that it is not possible to use the Wraith III. wheel hub and bearings if we use the Wraith III. wheel on this car without increasing the track by at least an inch. The outer bearing and its attributes including the earth device are the same as Wraith III.

The brake drum and brakes are materially the same as previously sent to you for Bentley III. and shown on N.Sch.4962 and its subsequent modifications, although we have been forced to modify slightly the disposition of some of the parts.

Likewise the pivot and its bearings are identical with N.Sch.4962 with the exception of the pivot thrust block which is shown on the scheme herewith.

Att: N.Sch.5191.
